SYNOPSIS

There are many research studies about El Niño, physical effect on oil palm crops and different future climatic forecast modelling. IPCC and some regional climate change studies were also been conducted in Malaysia.

However, no study was conducted to quantify the actual financial losses of those technical studies in term of real Malaysian GDP value for the oil palm industry. If future climate change scenarios bring forth grave outlook whereby more and frequent weather anomalies such as strong and prolonged El Niño period(s) will be expected in Malaysia and Indonesia, what can we do and what are the bottom-line impact to oil palm industry?

Ir. Asst. Professor Dr. Ling Lloyd

Ir. Dr. Lloyd Ling is an Assistant Professor and a Deputy Dean of R&D and Post Graduate Programme of the Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science (LKC FES) at Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR). He is an Associate Fellow of the ASEAN Academy of Engineering and Technology (AAET) and appointed as a panel member of the Engineering Technology Accreditation Council (ETAC) while he serves the Earthquake Technical Committee of the Department of Standards Malaysia under the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI). He has been an active principal researcher and research member of national and several industrial research grants in Malaysia.
