SYNOPSIS

Ever since mankind has evolved from the agricultural revolution to the industrial revolution in the 18th century, the Electrical industry has been an important criterion in powering up the entire industrialisation.

The electrical industry covers the generation, transmission, distribution and sale of electric power to the general public and industry. As reported by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), the power industry which is the electrical and electronic goods represents the largest category of goods traded globally in value at present days.  

The world is now moving towards its fourth industrial revolution (4IR) with the ongoing automation of traditional manufacturing and industrial practices, using modern smart technology. Large-scale machine-to-machine communication and the internet of things are integrated for increased automation, improved communication and self-monitoring, and the production of smart machines that can analyse and diagnose issues without the need for human intervention.

And with the current world trend of industrialization and 4IR, how would the power industry evolve? How would the power industry digitalize in the industry? How would the pandemic affect the process?


BIODATA OF SPEAKER

Ir. Yau Chau Fong has more than 20 years working experience mainly in a large and reputable Consultant Firm. He has established his own M&E consultancy practice, Duriane Professionals Sdn Bhd since 2011. His exposure includes mainly largescale Electrical System design for various types of buildings, plants & aviation industries, RE plants & data centres. His experiences include design, implementation and contracting for Electrical Building Services of various types of buildings from specialised buildings such as hangars & data centres to high-rise buildings, both locally and overseas. Ir. Ya u plays an extensively active role in the Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM) the primary organization encompassing the professionals in engineering in Malaysia. He has been involved in IEM since 2001, currently is the Vice President, heading the Standing Committee on Activities Committee. He holds pivotal roles in various Standing Committees serving as Committee Member of Standing Committee on Corporate Affairs as well as in the Professional Interview Board and Membership Application Board. Ir. Yau i s the Organizing Chairman for the upcoming IEM Convention ENGINEER 202 2 event. He is in IEM Excomm Member & IEM Council Member, respectively. His activeness in engineering fraternity further amplified through his involvement in ASEAN level. He is currently the AER Head Commissioner under ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organization (AFEO), whereby he advocates the mobility of engineers within the ASEAN countries. He has been invited to share his inspirational message on ASEAN Engineer’s role around ASEAN and as far as Middle East.
