SYNOPSIS
Electric vehicles (EVs) continue to surge in popularity as they are marketed towards technologists and green advocates alike. While EV manufacturers are eager to expand into this rapidly growing category, they largely ignore the challenges in charging infrastructure accessibility. Overcoming these challenges will be the kingpin goal of this century.
Countries like Malaysia faces the dilemma of competing fuel and electricity prices, and like many Southeast Asian mega cities had doubled down on urban sprawl, making the transition to electric economically unfeasible. Nonetheless, there are innovative and strategic choices that could be made to ensure that we are not left behind in the EV revolution.
This presentation aims to demonstrate that consumer EVs are not the main solution if we are to gain meaningful traction in transportation electrification. Various transportation electrification modalities and niche markets will be explored alongside cost and emissions analysis. We will also look into existing experimental technologies in EV such as inductive wireless charging, dynamic wireless charging, and the intersection of EVs and autonomous vehicles.
