SYNOPSIS
This course will introduce the participants to the design and TMP of an at grade intersection and how a road safety audit will look into the road safety issues It will cover the guidelines of the various Arahan Teknik Jalan publications by Jabatan Kerja Raya or JKR.
The course will cover:
• The role of the road engineer, contractor, supervising engineer, road safety auditor & authorities • The principles of design such as location and spacing of intersections • Design controls eg selection of intersection type • Geometric standards such as alignments and sight distance • Right and left turn lanes, pavement tapers and auxiliary lanes • Capacity of intersections • Pedestrian facilities and signalisation • Location of traffic signs, signals, pavement markings and lamp poles • Standard TMP layouts and their various zones • What does a road safety audit look out for practical issues
At the end of the course, participants, especially designers will be able to appreciate how to design an intersection and contractors will be able to understand basic TMP layouts, where to place traffic signs, draw pavement markings and to locate traffic signals and street lights.
BIODATA OF SPEAKER
Ir. Richard Wong graduated from Monash University, Melbourne in 1984 and is presently the Principal of RW Consultancy, a civil engineering consultancy firm that he founded in 2005 He has more than 35 years experience in the engineering profession He has worked in both overseas and local projects and his key experience extends to road safety audits, road and interchange designs, traffic light designs, traffic and transportation engineering, traffic impact assessments, traffic studies and project management Ir Richard is a PEPC, a Road Safety Auditor accredited by Jabatan Kerja Raya (JKR) Malaysia and a Past Chairman of the Highway and Transportation Engineering Division (HTETD) of IEM.
Ir. Richard has conducted RSA talks, seminars and courses for IEM and MIROS in KL, Petaling Jaya, Johor Bahru, Penang, KK and Miri He has also attended several road safety seminars and courses by JKR, KL and also a Road Safety Engineering Workshop by Vic Roads in Melbourne, Australia
