SYNOPSIS

Biophilic cities is a sister term of green city that eventually improvised the concept of the latter.The concept of biophilic cities holistically brings humans closer to nature by emotionally affiliating human beings to other living organisms in positively affecting the human physical and mental well being. In short, biophilic cities fulfil the need for urbanisation by generating natural systems and creating an ecosystem for biodiversity, where in the perspective of biophilic city development,the creation of built environment is apparently evolved and expanded. In integrating the principles of biophilic cities into buildings/developments, project managers play critical roles in ensuring that this biophilic city development is materialised with the most cost effective strategies associated with well-placed value management and engineering contribution. Hence, this talk aims at exploring the roles of project managers in optimising life-cycle economic performance as well as enhancing biophilic city performance and its rating strategies. It is expected that this talk will open the eyes on the principles and characteristics of biophilic city, the term that is still alien for many,by highlighting the growing functions of the project managers and the opportunities to be grabbed so that the profession is still relevant and indispensable in the built environment landscape.


BIODATA OF SPEAKER

Ir. Assoc. Prof Ts. Dr. Syuhaida Binti Ismail

Ir. Assoc. Prof. Ts. Dr. Syuhaida Ismail graduated from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia with the Bachelor of Engineering (Civil - Construction Management) in 2003. She then pursued Master in Project Management from University of Melbourne in 2004 and continue for PhD in Civil Engineering from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia and graduated in 2009.

As an industry-experienced academician with various engineering professional qualifications: the UK Chartered Engineer, the Associate ASEAN Engineer with ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organisation (AFEO) and Professional Engineer with Practising Certificate with the Board of Engineer Malaysia, Ir. Assoc. Prof. Ts. Dr. Syuhaida Ismail has significantly contributed as plenary/keynote speaker in local/international conferences/seminars and published 297 technical papers/articles/books on Sustainable Cities and Construction, Project Management, Construction Management and recently on the COVID-19 crisis in built environment.

She has received more than 50 research/professional awards, where her research products are commercialised into more than 100 Intellectual Property Rights (IPR). She is currently the Secretary of Project Management Technical Division (PMTD), The Institution of Engineers,Malaysia (IEM).
