SYNOPSIS
Sustainable buildings are becoming a focus now a days because they are cost-effective and pose great impact on our society and environment. Currently, health care buildings are categorized as commercial buildings and consume much electricity because of its non stop operations 24 hours a day. There are also concern on inefficient and run off water management. This high electricity consumption leads to high electricity costs and adversely affects the environment. The sustainable strategy shall been forced to maintain good performance on the operational and maintenance of the health care buildings. Sustainability strategies such as implementing Green Building certifications in health care facilities can improve and protect occupants health; improve employee productivity, reduce energy consumption, reduce the environmental impact, protect and restore water resources.
One of the leading Green Building certification is Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) is a green building certification program used worldwide. (Source Wikipedia) Medivest Sdn. Bhd., a Malaysian organization providing hospital support services will share their journey embarking on this certification program until recently being awarded the Platinum certification.
BIODATA OF SPEAKER
Ts. Muhamad Nasrul bin Othman graduated from University Teknologi Malaysia in 2001 in Bachelor Degree of Electrical – Medical Electronics. Currently he is Deputy General Manager for Medivest Sdn Bhd, managing Facility Engineering Maintenance Services Department. He has been working in health care industry for 20 years and his vast experience are mainly related to biomedical engineering, facility management
Ts. Amir Zulkhairi graduated in Bachelor Degree of Civil Engineering from University Tun Hussein Onn in 2012. His experience in the environmental sustain ability is rapidly expanding after his first professional certificate as Green Industry Auditor in 2014. He is currently managing Sustainability Program Department in Medivest Sdn Bhd, where he gets to apply his competencies as the Indoor Air Quality Assessor, MyCREST Facilitator& Assessor and recently he has also been certified as Professional in Measurement and Verification (CPMV) for energy management.
