SYNOPSIS

One of the most misunderstood design elements in an HVAC building is the role Harmonics play in the electrical system. Harmonics are harmful, energy-wasting currents which flow in the electrical system.

To improve building performance & to lower electrical energy consumption of HVAC and other electrically driven equipment has led to the introduction of 'non-linear' electrical loads to the electrical grid. Harmonic distortion caused by increasing non-linear loads can result in issues in a building's electrical system.

Harmonic Distortion - A by product of modern electronics, occurs when large numbers of personal computers, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), variable-frequency drives (VFDs), and other devices using solid-state power-switching supplies to convert (AC) power to (DC) power are present. In HVAC systems, AC drives are the most prevalent source of harmonic distortion.

BIODATA OF SPEAKER

Vinod Jethani has been associated with HVAC industry for more than 25 years. Currently working with Danfoss as a Regional BDM, Commercial Buildings – Asia Pacific region he is based in Singapore. Malaysia and India region have been a part of his work experience before moving to Singapore.
Holding a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering degree (MEng) from Delhi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya University, Indore India, Vinod has been engaged in execution of several infrastructure buildings i.e. Airports, Hospitals, Hotels, Office Buildings Pharmaceuticals, Semiconductor facilities and presented Harmonics topic on several occasion.
