SYNOPSIS
The Malaysian government has set its 2025 target to achieve 31% of Renewable Energy (RE) mix production through various sources where solar energy is showing a tremendous growth in the RE segment. This initiative was mainly driven by the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources (KeTSA). Large Scale Solar (LSS) projects were introduced back in 2016 (LSS-1) replacing the Feed-In-Tarif (FIT) scheme to drive down the Levelized Cost of Energy (LCOE) where today it has reached up to LSS 4 1000MW quota. Net Energy Metering (NEM 3.0) ensures public participation in the solar initiatives. Designing, constructing, operating, and maintaining solar plants requires a good blend and collaboration between multi engineering disciplines towards achieving the target objective towards a successful project delivery. This technical talk will give an brief overview of grid connected solar installation, associated construction risk and potential mitigation measures.
