SYNOPSIS

In today’s Pandemic Situation where industries freedom to operate is curtailed by the incessantly standard operating procedures issued by the government. These restrictions has not only caused economic instability but also social impacts that creeps into our homes.

Economy needs to grow and has to be nurtured by stakeholders, if not it will crash. The marine industry is no different, it has been impacted greatly by the pandemic and its survival is critical in some sectors.

In order to survive, engineers in the marine industry need to find a “balance” between, compliance to movement restrictions SOPs and project completion. There has to be some form of sensible priority in determining this balance.

This webinar shall cover some of the elements to achieve this balance.

BIODATA OF SPEAKERS

First Admiral (Retired) Dato’ Ir. Ahmad Murad B Omar and Ir. Ts Abdul Malik Hussein bin Abdul Jalil

First Admiral (Retired) Dato’ Ir. Ahmad Murad B Omar pursued a degree course in Mechanical Engineering at University Technology Malaysia (UTM) and graduated in 1982 with a Bachelors Engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering. Admiral Murad then pursued a part time off campus Masters of Science degree course in Engineering Business Management (EBM) with Warwick University UK and graduated in 2003. Recently, on 27th Mac 2021, was conferred a Honorary Degree in Doctor of Technology, the first in the history of University Malaysia Terengganu (UMT).

First Admiral (Retired) Dato’ Ir. Ahmad Murad after joining the RMN in 1974 and upon graduating from the Malaysian Armed Forces Defense College with a MSc in Strategic Studies (UKM) in 1999, was promoted to Captain in 2001 and a year later as First Admiral, he held several positions prior to early retirement option in 2007.

After retirement, he was appointed as the Chief Operating Officer of Motor Teknologi & Industri Sdn Bhd in Feb 2008 and later as Acting CEO, an engineering company dealing in remanufacturing and precision machining of machine components/diesel engines and automotive engine and vehicle refurbishment based in Rawang. Leaving MTI in Apr 2009, he became Chairman of a Six Sigma Consultancy Company and moved on to be the Executive Chairman of OMAHAMS Corporation Sdn Bhd, a trading company dealing with Marine paints and engineering consulting for marine project management and human capital development running courses endorsed by Human Resource Development Fund (HRDF).

First Admiral (Retired) Dato’ Ir. Ahmad Murad is a FELLOW of the Institute of Marine Engineering Science & Technology (IMarEST) United Kingdom and also since Nov 2015 as an Honorary Vice President of the same professional body for life. He is also a Chartered Engineer (CEng) registered with the UK Engineering Council. He is also a FELLOW of the Institute of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) since 21 Mar 2005 and had acquired his Professional Engineer (P.Eng) qualification in 1989 and later in 2015 converted to Professional Engineer with Practising Certificate (PEPC). In 2006 he was admitted as a member of SNAME (Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers) USA. Admiral Murad had also been recently appointed to Council Member of Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) on 14th Oct 2020.

Ir. Ts. Abdul Malik Hussein bin Abdul Jalil holds a MSc in Mechanical Engineering from MARA University of Technology (UiTM), Shah Alam, graduated also with a 2nd Class Uppers Honors, B.Eng in Mechanical Engineering from University of Sunderland, UK. Also a trained mariner, Abdul Malik completed the 2nd Class Certificate of Competency (Steam) from Malaysian Maritime Academy (ALAM) and Diploma in Marine Engineering from Ungku Omar Polytechnic, Ipoh, Perak. Abdul Malik carries a wealth of experiences in various aspects of mechanical engineering and design. After his sailing career with MISC (4th Engineer on board the SS Tenaga Fleet), Abdul Malik worked as a Computer Aided Engineer (CAE) for four years in Caidmark Sdn Bhd mainly carrying out aircraft related assignments mainly engineering simulations, before moving to J P Kenny Woodgroup Sdn Bhd (now known as WOOD) as a pipeline design engineer for one year. Also for one year, Abdul Malik acted as a project manager with S P Energy Sdn Bhd managing the maintenance of the Deutz Gas Generators before moving to Adex Sdn Bhd as a technical manager supporting MSC.Software simulation software solutions such as Patran, Nastran, Adams etc. Since 2014, Abdul Malik was welcomed as a Senior Mechanical Engineering Consultant with Caidmark Sdn Bhd, managing various assignments to various industries, related to CBM activities and engineering simulations. One of the significant roles was to be a part of the simulation team for the RMAF Sukhoi Life Extension Program.

Besides career growth, Abdul Malik has also shown interest in self-professional development. He has been a Professional Engineer (PEPC – Mechanical) since 2007 and a corporate member of IEM since 2008 and recently join as a committee member of IEM’s MNATD. Also recognized as a Chartered Engineer with the UK Engineering Council and Chartered Marine Engineer from Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (Imarest), UK. In 2019, Abdul Malik was recognized as a Professional Technologist (Ts) in the field of Maritime Technology (MI) from the Malaysian Board of Technologist (MBOT). Outside the office, Abdul Malik is currently an active committee member of the Rina-Imarest Malaysia Joint Branch, an assessor and assistant coordinator for Professional Review Interview (PRI) process on behalf of Imarest and UK Engineering Council.
