In conjunction with the 6th UN Global Traffic Safety Week 2021, HTETD, IEM in collaboration with Malaysia Institute of Transport (MITRANS), UiTM is supporting the event by organizing Road Safety Webinar with the theme ‘Street for Life #Love30. This year the GTSW is celebrated between 17 and 23 May, to call for 30 km/h speed limits to be the norm for cities, towns, and villages worldwide.

The Week will also be the official launch of the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021-2030 and its Global Plan, which will align with the Stockholm Declaration. The Action Plan provides encouragement on the policies to promote walking, cycling, and the use of public transport as inherently healthy and environmentally friendly modes of transport.

SPEAKER BIODATA

Ms. Sharifah Allyana is currently the leading the Visibility & Conspicuity Cluster and senior researcher with the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS). She was the acting director of Road Engineering & Environment Research Center between 2013 – 2015. She graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) in 2004 and Master of Highway and Transportation Engineering in2013 from the same university. She is also a Professional Technologist under the Malaysia Board of Technologists (MBOT).

Allyana has extensive background in national and international road safety. She has been the National Data Coordinator for the WHO Global Road Safety Status Report since the establishment of MIROS in 2007 and since then she has actively engaged and even led numerous national workshops on development and calibration of the Malaysian Road Safety Plan 2014-2020 as outlined by the United Nations Decade of Action for Road Safety, as well as the previous 2006-2010 plan. Currently she is also in the core team of the new development Malaysian Road Safety Plan 2021-2030.

Allyana has hands on technical experience in the end-to-end implementation of the national automated enforcement system as a core member of its inter-agency team. Allyana is a great example of a great collaborator where she has worked closely with, to name a few, the Royal Malaysian Police, the Road Transport authorities, the Ministry of Works and highway concessionaires and also the Ministry of Health on a number of operational and research projects to advance the safety of Malaysian roads. Her research background is diverse as she is a classically trained civil engineer with wide-ranging interests including but not limited to anything related with road safety data, motorcyclists and pedestrian safety and even post-crash injury.

Dr. Teik-Hua, Law is Associate Professor at the Civil Engineering Department, Universiti Putra Malaysia and serves as the Head of the Road Safety Research Center in Engineering Faculty, Universiti Putra Malaysia. Dr. Law also appointed as Adjunct Professor at the Hernan Technology University in China Mainland. He received his Ph.D. in Road Safety from the Center for Transport Studies at the Imperial College of London. He has 22 years experience in road safety research and specialized in road crash and road users’ behavior analysis. He has working on multiple international research projects offered by the Handicap International, the Volvo Sweden, the World Health Organization and the FIA foundation. Dr. Law has 55 journal papers published in the top transportation journals, such as Accident Analysis and Prevention, Transport Geography, Transportation Research Part A, Transportation Research Part D, Transportation Research Part F, Transport Policy, Journal of Safety Research. He is also a frequent presenter at national and international conferences.

Ir. Richard Wong graduated from Monash University, Melbourne in 1984 and is presently the Principal of RW Consultancy, a civil engineering consultancy firm that he founded in 2005. He is a Professional Engineer with Practising Certificate and has more than 35 years experience in the engineering profession. He has worked in both overseas and local projects and his key experience extends to Road Safety Audits (RSA), road and interchange designs, traffic light designs, traffic and transportation engineering, traffic impact assessments, traffic studies and project management. Ir. Richard is a Road Safety Auditor accredited by the Public Works Department or Jabatan Kerja Raya, Malaysia and is a Past-Chairman of the Highway and Transportation Engineering Division of the Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM).

Ir. Richard has conducted various RSA talks, courses and seminars for MIROS and IEM in Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru, Penang, Kota Kinabalu and Miri. He has also attended several road safety courses, conferences and seminars including a Road Safety Engineering Workshop by Vic Roads in Melbourne, Australia.
