SYNOPSIS
The talk will focus on the following issues about slope Design & Construction Practice:
1. Introduction to scope of discussion & aims of the talk.
2. Overview of slope design & construction practice with particular reference to SOTP& typical scope of design verification to show compliance with standards/design criteria for fill slopes & cut slopes. Need of basic scope of design validation of important design parameters, predicted performance, etc., are also elaborated.
3. Brief review of history of slope engineering practice in Malaysia with quoted case histories/projects and brief elaborations for the changes in practices.
4. Scope & procedures of slope stability assessment with particular reference to important scope of desk & field studies with illustrated case histories to emphasis the principles involved, using latest techniques.
5. Enlightening statistics about slopes to highlight the common causes for slope failures & typical features characterized by major landslides & lessons learnt
6. Case histories of slope design & construction highlighting fundamental design procedures and acceptance criteria plus the scope of independent checking.
7. Case histories of rock slope stabilization works illustrating how signs of slope distress, indications of weak zones such as geological discontinuities are identified and how effective mitigations against what can go wrong (WCGW) are provided.
8. Concluding remarks.
SPEAKER BIODATA
Ir. Neoh Cheng Aik
Ir. Neoh graduated from University of Malaya in 1974 with BE (Hons). He then joined JKR Malaysia in Feb 1974. Has served 25 years in various capacities and posts.
