SYNOPSIS

Ming Dynasty Chinese philosopher, Wang Yang Ming said that KNOWLEDGE and ACTION are one. KNOWLEDGE on paper is useless on its own. It has only value through PRACTICE.

It has been said that the only CONSTANT in our world is CHANGE and reflected in our industries IR4.0 (Industry 4.0) and socio economic landscape. Even under constant changes the fundamental of engineering principles and concepts remain intact which is the PREREQUISITE to move forward. In this respect the ability to gain new knowledge and learning different methodologies through continuous learning via one of the 4 communicative skills namely :

1.    Reading
2.    Writing
3.    Speaking
4.    Listening

Traditonally Engineers acquired knowledge from reading but this probably been replaced by COPY and PASTE concept thanks to easily available feature in our computer.

IEM Library in Petaling Jaya is the centre of knowledge and in keeping with the changing trend IEM introduced the Virtual Library in year 2014 and since then we had purchased up more than 400 electronic books (Ebook) accessible by members anywhere in the world via the Internet which is the way forward for the future.

IEM Library has kept all the traditional books and standards which probably deemed obsolete however members can discover by reading the past engineering practices and its evolution both in design concept and methodologies.

A brief presentation of the knowledge which can be obtained from 3 Ebooks :
1. Design of Rainwater Harvest Systems, explanation of the term “Peak Oil” term used in the
Oil & Gas Industry relates to “Peak Water” for the Water Cycle impact to the hydrologic system
2. Building Services Handbook, extract the various plumbing systems that could be installed in high
    rise building
3. The Design and Layout of Fire Sprinkler Systems, extract the explanation on the 3 types of
    namely Tree, Loop and Grid
