SYNOPSIS
This webinar will present some interesting facts and statistics on the rapid growth of the global medical device market followed by a discussion on the general future trend of medical technology. Selected focus areas will then be elaborated in line with the impact of COVID-19 pandemic and lead to the discussion of an engineer’s role in the future of medical technology and healthcare engineering. The speaker will also share her R&D experience on how she applied her background of computer and electronic engineering in the journey of inventing a heart rhythm monitoring device for early prevention and detection of heart disease as well as the process of modifying the device targeted for the COVID-19 patients for medication monitoring.
BIODATA OF SPEAKER
Dr. Hau Yuan Wen is a research fellow and the head of Cardiac Informatics Cluster at UTM-IJN Cardiovascular Engineering Centre, also a senior lecturer at the School of Biomedical Engineering and Health Sciences, Faculty of Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. She received both her Ph.D. degree and master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia in 2009 and 2005, respectively. Dr. Hau's research interests are in the design of multi-processor systems-on-chip (MPSoC) /networks-on-chip (NoC), from high level algorithm modelling until low level of processing architecture design, as well as field programmable gate array (FPGA) implementation. From there her research interests have spread into the field of cryptographic and data security application, biomedical application such as arrhythmia classification and medical imaging processing, as well as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)/autism assessment. She has published more than 50 papers in peer reviewed international journals and conferences, and several book chapters. She has won many best invention awards in design competition, as well as best paper publication award in many international conferences. She has few patents and copyrights based on her research invention.
